Healthcare Groups React Positively To MU Stage 3 Final Rule

Flexibility and support helped garner support of large medical groups for the new rule.

Most large medical groups issued positive statements regarding theMeaningful Use Stage 3 Final Ruling issued by CMS citing increased flexibility in meeting program requirements, support for the 90-day reporting period for 2015, and a new January 1, 2018 starting date to meet Stage 3 objectives and measures as factors helping garner.

In his blog, Dr. John Halamka, Beth Isreal Deaconess Medical Center CIO, wrote, “CMS and ONC have incorporated many of the changes requested by professional organizations and expert commentators, which is a good thing.”

In its statement, the American Hospital Association (AHA) called the ruling a “mixed bag” since it did allow for greater flexibility and the 90-day reporting period, but said the organization was disappointed that the new rule included “too many new and more challenging requirements.” The AHA urged HHS to postpone the implementation of Stage 3, “and focus instead on ensuring that providers could easily and efficiently share health information to support care delivery and new models of care.” For the full article click here
