Health startup founder: ‘I don’t think Madison knows it’s as good as it actually is’

Wes Garnett moved to Madison earlier this year to launch his healthcare startup, Kurbi — and he thinks the number of startups moving to Madison to tap into its health IT culture is vastly underestimated.

“I think there are a lot of places in the country that want to be the Silicon Valley of health tech,” Garnett said after his presentation at 1 Million Cups, a weekly get-together of local entrepreneurs, on Wednesday.

“I just felt like the ‘gold rush,’ at some point, will get to a point where you have to be here… I don’t think enough people are talking about the reasons why they moved here, and there are a lot of people who are moving here.”

Garnett said the presence of Epic Systems (“There is no company more important than Epic in this space,” he said) and Madison’s ideal location in the “tech corridor” nexus of Chicago and Milwaukee drew him here from the east coast. For the full article click here
