Human testing to start on Novartis smart contact lenses by next year

Smart contact lenses are coming, and will be tested as soon as next year, according to an announcement from Novartis.

The lens it will test is being created with help from Google, and will help people with age-related long sightedness by restoring the eye’s natural autofocus, according to a Reuters report.

“I had said it would take about five years to see a product on the market,” Novartis Chief Executive Joe Jimenez said, according to Reuters. “The calendar is on track and we are already developing a technological lens prototype [that] should be tested on humans in 2016.”
