GBMC, Group Benefit Services partner with health IT firm for new health plan

Howard County health technology firm Healthcare Interactive Inc., GBMC HealthCare and Hunt Valley employee benefit provider Group Benefit ServicesInc. have launched a new health plan that focuses on preventive and primary care services in an effort to reduce members’ overall health care costs.

The plan, called Habeo Health, is a so-called patient-centered medical plan, a type of plan through which a group of doctors agree to work together to develop a treatment plan for a patient, with the goal of reducing overlaps in tests, appointments and medication prescriptions.

Participating in preventive measures, such as health screenings and coaching, can make members eligible for a lower premium.

“Habeo, which is Latin for ‘to own,’ aims to build a culture of health in which individuals feel empowered to participate in their care,” Healthcare Interactive CEO Henry Cha said in a statement. “Primary care is provided through community health systems, like GBMC, that people know and trust.”

The plan will target employer groups with between 20 and 150 employees. Healthcare Interactive hopes to enroll 4,000 members by the end of the year.

Healthcare Interactive is a health benefits technology firm founded in 2006 and based in Glenwood. The company plans to launch its Habeo Health plan in Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia, according to the health plan’s website.

The plan’s Baltimore service area is linked GBMC HealthCare’s physician network, which includes more than a dozen doctors’ offices in the Baltimore area. GBMC HealthCare is the parent company of Greater Baltimore Medical Center. Group Benefit Services is a broker partner for the plan for Baltimore-area members.
