Online health tool provides diagnosis at home

Any Wisconsin resident can make use of Ministry Health Care’s online tool to receive diagnosis and treatment for a variety of health conditions without leaving home.

HealtheVisits, an online diagnosis tool, is available to anyone in the state between ages 2 and 65. After answering a series of questions using the online interview tool, a clinician reviews the information to provide a diagnosis and treatment plan, said William Brazeau, system director of business initiatives at Ministry Health Care.

Patients can use the tool to send prescriptions online to a pharmacy of their choice after receiving a treatment plan, he said.

The system became available in the Fox Valley in September and expanded to central and northern Wisconsin in late April. HealtheVisits is available daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and costs $35 out of pocket per use.

Kirsten Larson, a clinician with Affinity Health System and Ministry Health Care, is one of the clinicians who responds to treatment requests from HealtheVisits. She said the online tool allows health care providers to help patients at a low cost and convenient time.

“It’s time, it’s money, it’s convenient,” Larson said. “If it is something relatively low acuity, there’s no reason you need to spend two-three hours making an appointment, waiting, being seen and taking time to follow up on all of that.”

HealtheVisits users do not need to have a Ministry Health Care clinician to use the program, according to a news release.

Larson said the tool differs from Websites with medical information that help people self-diagnose in that a medical professional is actively involved and providing treatment options.

“There is a clinical person — a physician or a nurse practitioner — at the other end of what they’re doing that’s going to look this over,” she said. “They’re not being treated by a computer.”
