A research and development partnership agreed on by the US and Philippine governments two years ago was launched only recently under the name PCARI or the Philippine-California Advanced Research Institute.
Through PCARI, two joint research institutes will be set up. Researchers from the University of the Philippines and the Ateneo de Manila University will have access to the data and facilities of the University of California at Berkeley and San Francisco.
According to the Philippine Commission on Higher Education, the University of California’s scientists can apply their skills in designing solutions to Philippine problems with health care, energy, education and e-government.
