Optum, the technology wing of UnitedHealth Group tasked with buoying HealthCare.gov after its rocky start, is discontinuing its work on the government-run insurance website after declaring “mission accomplished” on Thursday.
Company spokesman Matt Stearns told the Wall Street Journal that by cutting ties with the $40 million-a-year project, Optum now will have the ability to work on other projects. He added that the company will continue to operate HealthCare.gov’s data services hub and identity management systems, and also will help states with their own insurance exchange sites.
In March, a Government Accountability Office report said that while the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has improved Healthcare.gov since its disastrous launch in 2013, the agency still lacks the IT management policies to fully fix the system. Article
