Obama: Healthcare.gov a ‘documented disaster’

Healthcare.gov was a “documented disaster,” President Barack Obama told Fast Company in an interview on technology in Washington.

Despite the failures of the online health exchange, Obama said it made the government realize it has to “completely revamp” how it manages IT projects. Part of that revamp will be changing culture and looking at IT in a different way, the president added.

“Part of the problem with Healthcare.gov was not that we didn’t have a lot of hardworking people paying attention to it, but traditionally the way you purchase IT services, software and programs is by using the same procurement rules and specification rules that were created in the 1930s,” he said.
