The Institute for Critical Infrastructure Technology issued its latest legislative briefing titled “Preventative Measures- Ensuring Information Security Prior to mHealth Development”. The brief is an analysis of the proliferation of mobile technologies in the healthcare ecosystem, addressing the benefits mobility brings to patients and health providers as well as data privacy risks that exist if these technologies are deployed without consideration for security. The brief will be distributed and presented to members of the Congressional Cybersecurity Caucus, Rural Health Caucus, Senate, Federal Agencies and the Healthcare and Public Health Sector Coordinating Council (HPH SCC), which ICIT is a member.
Among the various concepts discussed in the analysis are deterring breaches by reducing the value of the target, a defense in depth model using a “3×3″ matrix, the importance of security training, and PHI ownership issues.
