Mobile health business with personalized nutrition coaches views trainers, gyms as key partners

Nomful is a mobile health company that takes the view that exercise may be all well and good but if people can’t succeed at changing their food choices and eating habits, they undermine all the work they’ve done on the exercise front. In his company’s pitch for DreamIT Health‘s demo day in Baltimore, Nomful co-founder Thomas Gorczynski said it decided to use health clubs and personal trainers to reach customers.

The company uses registered, actively practicing dietitians as personal health coaches to its members, who pay a monthly subscription fee of up to $150. So far, 600 have applied to be part of its network.

Why take this approach? Gorczynski said it’s because members have demonstrated a commitment to improving their health. It views trainers as influencing members health inside the gym and nutrition coaches influencing behavior outside of these fitness clubs. Nomful rewards referrals from gyms and trainers with a bonus.

“We treat health clubs and trainers as affiliate partners to reach the people who are actively pursuing a healthier lifestyle but are missing the support they need for their nutrition.” He added, “We’re providing a tool for personal trainers to engage with their clients outside of the gym.”

Gorczynski said the company is initially focusing on growing its customer base in Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York City, and Washington D.C. Boston and Chicago will be next.

It’s looking for health clubs and personal trainers to add to its network.
